Introduction
This tool available on cPanel allows you to view the quota of all your email accounts and delete certain emails. In fact, you can delete the oldest emails, as well as the largest ones.
Prerequisites
- Have a cPanel or Cloud cPanel plan
How does the cPanel Email Disk Usage tool work?
11. Log in to your LWS customer area.
22. Access your cPanel interface.
33. Click the "Email Disk Usage" button found in the "Email" section of your cPanel interface.

44. In the "Account" dropdown window, search for the email account for which you want to check the email quota of each folder.

You will find a summary for each email address containing:
- Mailbox Name : The names of the directories present in the email account;
- Of Messages : the number of emails present per directory;
- Disk Usage : The quota used by each directory of the email address concerned. The quota is defined in KB, MB or GB.
- Action : allows deletion actions to be performed on the directory concerned.
55. If you want to delete emails from one of the folders concerned, click on the "Manage" tab located behind the folder concerned.

66. Select one of the following deletion options from the menu:
- 1 year old or more : 1 year or more;
- 30 MB in size or more : 30 MB or more;
- Previously viewed: Marked as read;
- All messages : All messages;
- Custom query: Custom queries. This query allows you to customize your deletion option by specifying the desired search query format. For example, if you want to delete all emails larger than 10 MB, select this option and enter the value "larger 10M" in the text box.

77. Click the "Delete Permanently" button to proceed with deleting the emails concerned.

Please note that deleting emails is final and irreversible. Therefore, it is necessary to be careful about what you are going to delete.
What are the different formats that can be used?
As indicated, it is possible to customize your email deletion option by specifying a desired search query format. Among the formats, you can find the following:
- savedbefore: corresponds to all emails saved before the specified date. For example, you can specify
savedbefore 2weeks if you want to delete all emails older than 2 weeks. You can also delete emails older than 7 days by specifying savedbefore 7days .
- savedon: Allows you to delete emails saved on a specific date. For example, you can delete emails from August 15, 2022 by using the query
savedon 15-Aug-2022 .
- savedsince: corresponds to emails whose date matches or is later than the specified date. You can therefore delete messages from August 15, 2022 as well as all emails received after this date by using the query
savedsince 15-Aug-2022.
Regarding date specification, it works as follows:
- day: there is no difference, the day is specified as a number, from 1 to 31;
- Month: the month name is abbreviated and in English. The months are as follows: Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec;
- Year: you will need to indicate the 4 digits of the year concerned, for example 2022.
You also have the option to delete emails by size. The sizes that can be used are as follows:
- B: Byte;
- k: Kilobyte;
- M: Megabyte
- G: Gigabyte
If you want to delete an email larger than 1 GB, the query will be larger 1M or larger 1024k .
Conclusion
You are now able to check the quota of your email accounts and delete the oldest emails from each of your mailboxes.
