Backup policy for your cPanel web hosting (web, MySQL and emails)

Procédure

In brief

[PERSON_NAME] cPanel web hosting comes with automatic daily backups covering your web files, MySQL databases, and emails. Backups are systematically performed for all cPanel hosting plans — what varies depending on your service level is the ability to restore these backups самостоятельно from cPanel. There are two levels: free [PERSON_NAME] (self-service restoration up to 1 month, hosting up to 20 GB) and Business Option (self-service restoration up to 3 months, no size limit). Beyond that, a managed intervention remains possible.

What are automatic backups?

Automatic backups are performed continuously for all our cPanel web hosting plans, regardless of your service level. They are designed to allow you to return to a previous state in the event of an error, accidental deletion, hacking, or software failure.

The technical features are identical for all customers:

  • One backup per day
  • Hot backup (hot backup) — your site remains fully accessible during the operation
  • Storage on a dedicated NAS, separate from your hosting server
  • The storage infrastructure is entirely in RAID — replacing a failed disk is transparent

What is backed up on your cPanel web hosting

The content of your automatic backups includes:

  • [PERSON_NAME] web : the entire document root, including hidden files (.htaccess, etc.)
  • MySQL databases : full dumps of all your databases
  • Emails : content of all email addresses associated with your cPanel hosting

[ADDRESS] backup is identical for all cPanel web hosting plans.

When are they performed and how long are they retained?

The frequency and retention are the same for all customers:

  • The last 7 daily backups are retained
  • Beyond 7 days: 1 weekly backup, retained for up to several months depending on restoration needs

So at any time you have around ten versions over 1 month, or even up to about twenty over 3 months depending on your restoration service level (see next section).

What varies depending on your service level: restoration

Since backups are the same for everyone, it is the ability to restore these backups independently that differentiates free [PERSON_NAME] from the Business Option.

cPanel hosting over 20 GB

If your cPanel hosting exceeds 20 GB, self-service restoration from cPanel is not available with the free Basic Backups — the backups are then reserved for internal LWS use. However, you can still trigger a restoration via managed intervention from your customer area. To have self-service restoration with no size limit, we recommend subscribing to the Business Option.

Retention after cancellation
