Concerned service: domain name and web hosting
Concerned panel: no specific panel
Level: beginner
This guide helps you check that a domain or subdomain is correctly directing visitors to the expected hosting. It is especially useful if your website does not display, shows an older version, or has just been moved to a new server.
The check uses Google Admin Toolbox Dig. This external tool displays the DNS information publicly visible for your domain, without requiring any command or special software.
You need to know the IP address your domain should point to.
For LWS hosting or a server, see the help article Retrieve the IP addresses of my LWS services to find the value corresponding to your plan.
If your domain must be linked to an external service, use only the IP address or destination name provided by that service.
In the Name field, enter [PERSON_NAME] without https://, without www, and without adding a page.

[PERSON_NAME] :
example.com
Select the A record type.
An A record indicates the IPv4 address [PERSON_NAME] is directed to.

Google Admin Toolbox Dig provides an external check outside LWS. The result makes it possible to confirm that the DNS record is visible from Google resolution, and not only recorded in your panel.
The domain example.com and the address are two distinct names. They must therefore [PERSON_NAME] separately.
In Google Admin Toolbox Dig, replace the searched name with:
www.example.com
example.com ;It is normal for www to use a CNAME to the main domain instead of containing an IP address directly. In this case, www will follow the main domain's pointage.
This check is useful if Google Dig displays an old IP address or a value different from the one recorded in your LWS customer area.
www.The [ADDRESS] records indicate which DNS servers currently manage [ADDRESS] domain DNS zone.
If the servers displayed belong to another provider, [ADDRESS] DNS zone visible in your LWS customer area may not be the one used on the Internet. The change must then be made from the service that actually manages these DNS servers.
Do not change the DNS servers just to correct a website address. A DNS server change can also alter the functioning of emails, subdomains, and other services associated with the domain.
After a DNS change, the new value may appear quickly in Google Dig, while some networks are still using the old value stored in their cache.
A full DNS propagation can take up to 24 to 48 hours. During this period, the displayed site may vary depending on the network or device used. Avoid modifying the same record several times during this delay.
When the DNS results match the expected destination:
Open your site with the main domain:
https://example.com
[PERSON_NAME] also the address with www :
https://www.example.com
The web pointage is correctly published when the main domain and the address with www return the expected destination in Google Dig and open the correct website in a browser.
Google Dig still shows [PERSON_NAME] IP
Check the NS records to make sure you modified the DNS zone actually used by the domain.
[PERSON_NAME] zone was changed recently, wait for propagation. There is no need to delete and recreate the record several times.
The main domain works, but not the address with www
Search separately for www.votredomaine.com in Google Dig.
[PERSON_NAME] no A or CNAME record is returned, [PERSON_NAME], check the www record in the active DNS zone of the domain.
Google Dig shows the correct address, but the website does not open
DNS pointage may be correct while the issue comes from the hosting.
In particular, check that:
An older version of the site still appears
[PERSON_NAME] the site in a private browsing window, then clear the browser cache if necessary.
If your site uses a caching system, a CDN, or a WordPress cache plugin, it may also keep an older version of the pages.
The IP address shown is not the server's, but the site works
Your domain may use a proxy or a CDN, such as Cloudflare. In this case, the publicly visible IP address [PERSON_NAME] to the proxy and not directly to your hosting.
Do not modify the DNS zone based solely on this difference. Check the configuration from the service that manages the proxy.
The site works differently depending on the device
Perform an AAAA type search in Google Dig.
An AAAA record directs the domain to an IPv6 address. If it contains an old destination, devices using IPv6 may reach a different server than those using the A record.
Do not delete or modify this [PERSON_NAME] IPv6 record [PERSON_NAME] confirms that it should not be used.
