What FTP settings are required for a main FTP account?

The FTP connection information you will need to connect to your FTP space is as follows:

  • Host server : the host server is the FTP address of your server. This can be ftp.domain.com (replace domain.com with your domain name), domain.com or the server's IP address. In general, it is necessary to use an address pointing to your server. For this reason, it is often advisable to use information received by email.
  • Username : This is the username you use to connect to your cPanel space.
  • Password: Like the username, the password is the one you use to connect to your cPanel interface.
  • Port: 21
  • Protocol: FTP
  • Authentication: Choose password authentication.

All this information is sent to you by email when you subscribe to a package. If you have lost the login and password for your cPanel interface, you can change them in your customer area. Once they have been changed, connect to the cPanel interface via your customer area. In the top right-hand corner of the cPanel interface, you will find your login.

What FTP settings are required for a secondary FTP account?

On your cPanel interface, you can create secondary FTP accounts by clicking on the"FTP Accounts" tab in the"Files" section. The additional FTP account allows you to restrict access to your FTP space. You can define a folder to which the FTP account can connect. As a result, it will not have access to the other folders on your hosting.

The host server, port, protocol and authentication type do not change. Only the login and password need to be changed. The login will take the form of an email address"identifiant@domaine.com".

Conclusion

You can now configure an FTP client using the default settings in your cPanel interface and/or after creating an additional FTP account on your cPanel web hosting. You can delete a secondary account at any time. Only the main account cannot be deleted.
