Introduction
In this documentation, we will see what a domain name is and what extensions are available at LWS.
Definition of the domain name
A domain name allows access to a website. A domain is a set of computers connected to the Internet and sharing a common characteristic. Therefore, an internet address or domain name is the equivalent of your postal address on the internet.
Why use a domain name?
The domain name appears in your URL bar. Memorizing one or more IP addresses can be complicated and you no longer know which site it corresponds to. As a result, using a domain name is much more practical. For example, LWS has the domain name lws.fr, so it is easier to remember than its IP.
Choosing a domain name is important on the internet, because it is your brand image and a protection.
Its composition:
The domain name is made up of three parts: the first part is the "subdomain", the second part is the second level, and the third part is the top-level domain, more commonly called "extensions".
A subdomain allows a visitor to arrive directly on the page they are looking for.
LWS has several subdomains allowing you to access specific things. For example https://aide.lws.fr/ (the page you are currently on).
Extensions
There are several types of extensions. Each extension is managed by a registry at the international and national level. At LWS, you will find more than 400 extensions. Find the most popular extensions such as .fr, .be, .com, and even .eu.
