Backup policy for your Plesk hosting (files, MySQL, emails)

Procédure

In brief

Your Windows Plesk web hosting benefits from automatic backups for your emails and web files. However, MySQL databases are not backed up on the LWS side — you are responsible for backing them up via the native Plesk module. Restoration of web files is carried out by managed service intervention from your customer area. For databases, only your own Plesk backup setup allows restoration.

Backup scope

Data typeLWS automatic backupRestoration method
Emails✅ YesAccording to the shared hosting policy — see details
Web files✅ YesManaged service intervention from the customer area
MySQL databases❌ NoOnly via your own Plesk backups

Email backups

The automatic backups of your Plesk emails follow the same policy as for our shared Linux hosting plans. For details (frequency, retention, restoration), see the Backup Policy for your shared web hosting.

Web file backups

Your web files are subject to automatic server backups. Restoration is not available as self-service from the Plesk interface — it is carried out via a managed service intervention from your customer area. Our technical team restores the files from the available server backups.

⚠️ MySQL databases: backups are your responsibility

Unlike web files and emails, MySQL databases on Plesk hosting are not automatically backed up on the LWS side. No database restoration from server backups is possible.

You must therefore set up your own database backups via the native Plesk module (see section below). Without this, in the event of data loss or database corruption, no recovery will be possible.

Set up your own backups from Plesk

Plesk natively offers a manual and scheduled backup system that covers web files AND databases. This option allows you to:

  • Trigger an immediate backup on demand
  • Schedule recurring backups (daily, weekly, etc.)
  • Download your backup archives to your local computer

Recommendation: schedule at least one daily backup including the databases, and regularly download the archives to external storage.

Note: these backups are stored on your hosting space and consume your quota. Make sure to manage their size.

For detailed procedures, see our articles:

Request a web file restoration via managed service

For any request to restore web files or email content from server backups, you can trigger a managed service intervention from your customer area. Our technical team will review your request and guide you through the process.

Reminder: this procedure does not apply to databases — those can only be restored from backups you have scheduled yourself in Plesk.

Retention after cancellation

After your Plesk hosting is cancelled, backups are retained in accordance with the applicable regulations (European GDPR and French legal obligations, including the ability to respond to judicial requests). For details, see our Terms and Conditions — data retention section.

Frequently asked questions

Are my Plesk MySQL databases backed up by LWS?

No. Databases on Plesk hosting are not included in the LWS automatic backup policy. It is essential to schedule your own database backups via the native Plesk module.

Are my Plesk web files automatically backed up?

Yes. Your web files benefit from automatic server backups. Restoration is carried out by managed service intervention from your customer area (no self-service in the Plesk interface).

Are my Plesk emails automatically backed up?

Yes. Automatic backups of your emails follow the same policy as for our shared Linux hosting plans. See the full policy.

How can I back up my Plesk site independently?

Plesk includes a native backup module that lets you create manual or scheduled archives of your site and database. See the procedure.

Do the backups I create from Plesk take up space on my hosting?

Yes, backups created via the Plesk module are stored on your hosting space and consume your quota. Remember to download them to your computer or delete them after use.

How do I request a file restoration via managed service?

From your LWS customer area, open a managed service request specifying the hosting concerned, the desired backup date, and the scope to restore (specific file, folder, full site, etc.). This procedure does not apply to databases.

Are my Plesk backups replicated in the event of a disk failure?

Yes. The storage infrastructure for web files and emails is fully RAID-based. Our technical team replaces failed disks without interruption or data loss.

What happens to my backups after my Plesk hosting is cancelled?

Backups are retained in accordance with the applicable regulations (GDPR and French legal obligations). For details, see our Terms and Conditions.
