LWS KVM VPS is a virtual server with dedicated resources (processor, memory, NVMe SSD disk), delivered with full root access: you are the one who administers it. It is available in four plans, S, M, L and XL. Each KVM VPS includes free daily backups for 30 days and up to 3 free snapshots. It is never fully managed: updates and server security remain your responsibility.
The four plans have the same processor, the same bandwidth and the same root access. They differ in the number of cores, memory and disk space:
| Resource | VPS KVM S | VPS KVM M | VPS KVM L | VPS KVM XL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Intel Xeon processor (3.0 GHz) | 2 vCore | 4 vCore | 6 vCore | 8 vCore |
| RAM memory | 4 GB | 8 GB | 12 GB | 16 GB |
| NVMe SSD storage | 100 GB | 150 GB | 200 GB | 250 GB |
| Bandwidth | Unlimited, 250 Mbit/s throughput | Unlimited, 250 Mbit/s throughput | Unlimited, 250 Mbit/s throughput | Unlimited, 250 Mbit/s throughput |
| Root access | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
These are the resources shown on the sales page in November 2026. Prices, current promotions and commitment periods change regularly: check the LWS KVM VPS page before ordering.
Your own VPS resources (vCPU, RAM, local disk, IPv4 and IPv6 addresses) are displayed on the Overview page of the KVM panel. The steps to follow are explained in the help How to check the status and resources of your LWS VPS.
Your KVM VPS is automatically backed up every morning, to a dedicated NAS. These backups are free for 30 days. After that, you can keep them for 20% of your VPS price.
A snapshot freezes your VPS state at a specific point in time. You can keep up to 3 at the same time, free of charge, and they remain available as long as your VPS is active. Create one just before an update or configuration change: if something goes wrong, you can revert to the previous state.
The sales page mentions automatic updates “if you opt for managed service”: this concerns another offer, the LWS VPS Server range, which is available in managed mode. Details of what LWS does in each case are in the help Managed VPS, root access or KVM VPS: who manages what?.
In your client area, open the Servers tab and look at the Plan column: a KVM VPS appears there as “KVM VPS S” (or M, L, XL), while a VPS Server appears as “LXC VPS M”.
You can upgrade to a higher plan at any time, without interrupting your services or losing your data. If the KVM panel graphs show CPU or memory often above 80%, it is the right time. To request it, open a ticket from your client area (Support, then Contact support) and indicate your VPS reference (VPS-…) and the desired plan.
You can continue to have your backups retained for 20% of your VPS price. To know what is active on your VPS, open a ticket from your client area and provide its reference. In all cases, keep a copy of your important data outside the server.
No, the rules differ. On a KVM VPS: up to 3 snapshots at the same time, available as long as the VPS is active. On a VPS Server: up to 10 snapshots, kept for 10 days, as explained in the help How to create and restore a snapshot on VPS.
No, the KVM VPS does not have a managed-service option. Technical support remains available to guide you. If you want LWS to maintain your server for you, that is offered by the VPS Server range, in managed mode.
Connect using an SSH key rather than a password, then restrict SSH access to keys only: follow the help articles How to connect to your LWS VPS with an SSH key and How to secure SSH access on an LWS VPS: keys only and fail2ban.
