This documentation is intended to provide you with definitions of the terms used for Shared/Email/Dedicated VPS hosting. At the end, you will find a Frequently Asked Questions section.

What is shared hosting?

Shared hosting is an Internet hosting mode intended mainly for websites, in a technical environment whose main server characteristic is that it is shared by several users.

What is a VPS server?

A virtual dedicated server (Virtual Private Server in English) is a method of partitioning a dedicated server into several independent virtual servers, each of which has the characteristics of a dedicated server.

What is SEO?

SEO work consists of improving the ranking and visibility of sites in search engine results pages or directories.

What is the Cloud?

Cloud computing or computing in the cloud is a cloud storage system, that is to say, dematerialized. Data storage is managed by a remote server to which users connect via an Internet connection. The data is synchronized and accessible from any device: computer, smartphone or tablet.

What is an Apache server?

 It is software that processes HTML / PHP pages... on a web server and transmits the information to client browsers.

What is a database?

It is a system that stores data using a special language

What is PHP / ASP?

These are programming languages that make it possible to make web pages dynamic

What is Linux / Windows / CENTOS / Ubuntu?

What is a Crontab?

What is Hotlink Protection?

These are tools that allow you to create a website without needing code directly from a browser. These are tools that are easy to use and suitable for beginners.

What is a Parking page?

It is a simple page that is placed on your site so that internet users have a small presentation page (contact details, company description) while waiting for a website to be officially created.

What is IMAP (Port 110) IMAPS (Port 993)?

Interactive Mail Access Protocol, a protocol that makes it possible to retrieve emails stored on mail servers. Emails are kept on the server so they can be viewed from different email clients or webmail.

What is TLS?

Transport Layer Security, this is a secure exchange protocol, the successor to SSL (Secure Sockets Layer)

What is traffic?

It is the flow of information that passes through your website.

What is bandwidth?

It is the maximum throughput [ADDRESS] communication (web or other). 1 Mbits is equivalent to 330GB per month.

What is Page Speed mode?

It is a module made by Google for Apache servers that makes it possible to speed up your website (file compression and other functions to save bandwidth).

What is SSH (Port 22)?

Secure Shell is an encrypted protocol that allows you to connect to a server or administer it via command line through a console.

What is a changeLog?

It is a file that summarizes all the changes that have been made to a file/program or other.

What is a HTACCESS?

It is a configuration file for Apache that makes it possible to define rules in a directory and in all its subdirectories. Every time a web page [ADDRESS] is called, the HTACCESS will be executed. You can perform address rewrites or protect the current directory, for example.

Allows all emails received on one email address to be automatically sent to another email address.

It is a data structure (file with a number) and each structure is associated with a file to describe the details of that file (creation date, modification, owner...).

What is a Mysql database?

This is a database that groups together all the data from your site through tables

What is a Mysql table?

A Mysql table is one of the elements of a MySQL database.  

What is FTP (Port 21)? File Transfert Protocol is a protocol for transferring files, often used to upload files to a website.

What is an ODBC link?

Open Database Connectivity, this is a registry where database information is stored. This software makes it possible to manage several types of databases.

What is IIS?

Internet Information Service is a Microsoft web server that makes it possible to process website pages.

What is LWS Auto Install?

It is a software package that can be installed in one click via the LWS customer area.

What is a mailing list?

A mailing list is a list of email addresses. Several emails are associated with a single address, and when an email is sent to that address, it distributes the email to all those linked to it.

What is a SPAM?

It is an unwanted email that was sent to us without our consent.

What is SPAM Assassin?

 It is an anti-spam software that classifies emails as SPAM based on a defined score according to specific rules that can be adapted.

What is Wordpress / Joomla?

These are CMS (Content Management System), or Content Management Systems, working with PHP and MySQL. These CMSs make it easy to create an advanced website without needing to code.

What is OsCommerce / Prestashop?

These are CMS (Content Management System) working with PHP and MySQL that make it easy to create an advanced website without needing to code.

What is a Web Transfer?

It is a web page from an internet browser that allows you to transfer and manage the files of your website.

What is HTML?

Hypertext Markup Language, a language used to design basic web pages that work in the form of tags (e.g.: )

What is an index page?

It is the default page of a website in general, often named index.html, index.php...

What is the POP protocol (110) POPS (995)?

Post Office Protocol, a protocol managing the reception of emails on servers or email clients.

What is the SMTP protocol (25) SMTPS (587)?

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, a simple protocol for sending email used by servers and email clients.

What is a mail / email?

It is an electronic message (electronic letter). An email can be likened to postal mail. There is a sender, a recipient, a subject, content and sometimes attachments (for example, a photo or any other computer file)

What is an email address?

It is an electronic address that allows us to receive emails ([EMAIL]) the electronic address is unique, [PERSON_NAME] postal.

What is a signature in an email?

These are additional information that is automatically added at the end of your email. This generally consists of contact information containing: last name, first name, logo, address...

Frequently Asked Questions

 How do I add an E-mail account?

Creating e-mail accounts takes just a few clicks from your customer area :

1 ) Click on the “Admin” button for the domain for which you want to create one or more addresses

2 ) Go to the “Email administration” section

3 ) Fill in the fields to choose the name of your address, its access password and the quota you wish [PERSON_NAME]

4 ) Validate → You can now easily view and send your messages from webmail.

How can I easily view and send my messages from webmail?

The [ADDRESS] webmail (Roundcube) is easily accessible via any internet browser. To access it, follow these steps:

1 ) [PERSON_NAME] http://mail.votredomaine.ext in your browser (votredomaine.ext is an example, replace these terms with your own domain name)

2 ) [PERSON_NAME] the full email address you want to access as Username

3 ) Enter the password you chose when creating this email address

4 ) Select your preferred language

How do I configure my E-mail address on my email client?

Email addresses created from the LWS Panel customer area can be easily configured in any email client (Outlook, Thunderbird, Mac Mail...) and on any mobile device (iPhone, iPad, smartphone...)

I have reached the mail disk space, what should I do?

You can choose yourself the space [PERSON_NAME] “Email administration” [PERSON_NAME] maximum that can be allocated, so we invite you to connect to your email account via the webmail made available to you in your customer area in order to delete emails from this mailbox.

Currently on a shared hosting plan, you are limited to 2 GB of disk space per email box, and you can store 10,000 emails.

You can increase this quota by subscribing to an additional mail option by clicking on the link 'Do you need more email space?  present below the 'Maximum storage space for emails' gauge. If you want to increase this limit (have a disk space greater than 5GB per email account), then you will need to switch to a VPS plan.

I can no longer send email: sender address rejected, too many spams

This type of error indicates that you have exceeded the email sending and/or receiving limits associated with your plan.

If you did not perform this type [ADDRESS], we invite you to change the password associated with your email account from your customer area and the “email administration” section, then by clicking on the email box on which you want to perform this action.

If your account has been permanently suspended, then you should contact customer support so that our technical team can analyze the error and manually unblock your account if it fully complies with our security conditions.

How do I use the SiteBuilder Pro software?

How do I install software via the Auto-Installer?

You can easily install software such as Joomla, Wordpress, Prestashop etc. from your customer area. [PERSON_NAME], click on the “Admin” button for the domain on which you want to install software and go to the “LWS Auto-install” section.

What is a VPS?

[PERSON_NAME] imply that the client also administers the machine, which belongs to them, which allows more freedom in the use of resources and configuration. But these are more parameters requiring mastery, and anticipation of the possible reactions of your site.

Are VPS offers ready to use?

Yes, the machines are delivered ready to use: all the services necessary for the proper functioning of a site or web application, a mail service, etc. are already installed by us.

As the administrator of your server, you are entirely free to modify all previously delivered configurations.

Can I host adult content on a web hosting plan?
