Objective

This documentation helps you understand which data is backed up on your [ADDRESS] service, how long it is retained, and, depending on your plan, whether you can restore it yourself from the LWS Panel or whether a managed service request is required.

Services concerned

This documentation is intended for customers with one of the following services:

  • a domain plan
  • a shared hosting [ADDRESS] Linux
  • the Mail Pro addresses
  • the Business Support option

The included restorations [PERSON_NAME] LWS Panel when your plan allows it.

Before you begin

Before choosing a restoration, clearly identify:

  • the type of data to recover: web files, MySQL database, or email content
  • the target period: [PERSON_NAME] or older

In this documentation:

  • Included restoration means that you can perform the action from the [ADDRESS] Panel.
  • Managed service means that you must open an intervention request with support. The service to select is Backup search, at the price of €49 excl. VAT.

What data is backed up on my services?

LWS performs daily backups of the data used on its concerned services. The backed-up items are:

  • the web files of your hosting
  • the MySQL databases
  • the content of email addresses

These backups apply to domain plans, shared hosting managed with the LWS Panel, and Mail Pro services. However, [PERSON_NAME] vary depending on the subscribed service.

How long are backups kept?

Backup retention follows the rules below:

  • the 7 most recent daily backups are retained
  • beyond 7 days, 1 weekly backup is retained, up to 1 month with free Basic Backups, or up to 3 months with the Business Option

In total, you can therefore have about 10 versions over 1 month with free Basic Backups, or about 19 versions over 3 months with the Business Option, for web files, MySQL databases, and email addresses. See the full backup policy.

How do you know what you can restore?

Restoration options depend on your plan and on how old the backup you are looking for is.

1. You have a domain plan

You can request restoration of web files and email content, but this goes through a managed service, [PERSON_NAME] backups from 0 to 30 days as well as those from 30 to 90 days.

2. You have Mail Pro addresses

Restoration of email content for all email addresses [PERSON_NAME] included for backups from 0 to 30 days and 30 to 90 days.

3. You have shared hosting managed with the LWS Panel

If you have an LWS Linux hosting plan, such as Perso, Starter, Standard, or Performance:

  • restoration of web files is included for backups from 0 to 30 days
  • restoration of MySQL databases is included for backups from 0 to 30 days
  • restoration of email content goes through a managed service

For backups from 30 to 90 days, restoration of web files, MySQL databases, and email content goes through a managed service.

4. You have paid hosting with Mail Pro addresses

  • the MySQL databases can be restored and are included for backups from 0 to 30 days

Step 3: Open a managed service request if necessary

If your plan does not allow direct restoration, open a request via the dedicated documentation: How to open a shared managed service.

Common issues

I don’t know which plan I use

The name of your plan is shown in the product listing on the home page of your LWS account.

I don’t see a restoration option in the LWS Panel

This usually means that restoration is not included for your plan or for the backup period you are targeting. In this case, a managed service may be necessary.

I am looking for an old backup

Backups are only kept up to 3 months, according to the retention rules described above. [PERSON_NAME] you are looking for exceeds this period, the backup will no longer be available.

I restored the web files, but the site did not come back correctly

If your site also uses a MySQL database, restoring the web files alone may not be enough. It may also be necessary to restore the database to a date consistent with that of the files.

I want to restore only emails

The ability to restore email content depends on the subscribed service. With Mail Pro, restoration of email content is included. With other plans, it may require a managed service depending on your service level.

Conclusion

LWS backs up web files, MySQL databases, and email address content daily on the concerned services. Backups are kept for up to 1 month with free Basic Backups (about 10 versions) or up to 3 months with the Business Option (about 19 versions). Depending on your service level, restoration can be performed in self-service from the LWS Panel or via a managed service intervention from your customer area. Before taking action, identify your service, the type of data to recover, and how old the backup you are looking for is.
