Service concerned : email addresses managed from the LWS Panel
Concerned panel : LWS Panel

This help allows you to quickly find the documentation suited to the action you want to perform on your mail service.
You can notably create a mailbox, set up forwarding, manage storage space, strengthen the security of your addresses, or check service activity. Each operation is explained in a dedicated help article.
This help concerns the mail service administered from the LWS Panel.
Are you using another environment?
A standard mailbox has its own inbox, password, and storage space. It can be accessed from the Roundcube webmail or configured in an email client.
Depending on the action you want to perform, see the corresponding help:
Deleting a mailbox permanently deletes the messages it contains. Back up important emails before starting the deletion.
Several solutions make it possible to receive or forward messages sent to your domain name.
| Solution | What is it used for? |
|---|---|
| Standard mailbox | It stores messages and can be accessed with a password. |
| Simple forwarding | It forwards messages to another address, without creating an inbox at LWS. |
| Alias | It adds another address to an existing mailbox. Messages arrive in the main mailbox. |
| Catch-all | It retrieves messages sent to non-existent addresses on your domain. |
To compare the different forwarding methods, see: Which email forwarding should you choose?.
Use simple forwarding when you want to receive messages on an already existing address, without creating a new mailbox at LWS.
Simple forwarding does not have an inbox. No copy of the message is kept on the LWS mail service.
See: How do I create email forwarding with the LWS Panel?.
An alias is an additional address associated with an existing mailbox. It does not have its own password or inbox.
For example, messages sent to commercial@votredomaine.fr can arrive in the contact@votredomaine.fr mailbox.
See: How do I create and manage mail aliases on your LWS account?.
Catch-all makes it possible to receive, in a defined mailbox, messages sent to a non-existent address on your domain.
It can, for example, retrieve a message sent to contat@votredomaine.fr instead of contact@votredomaine.fr.
Catch-all also retrieves many messages automatically sent to non-existent addresses. It can therefore increase the amount of spam received and fill the destination mailbox more quickly.
See: How do I activate catch-all on your LWS mail service?.
A mailing list allows you to use a single address to send a message to multiple recipients.
It can be useful for a team, an association, or a workgroup. However, it does not replace a standard mailbox: it is mainly used to distribute messages to list members.
See: How do I effectively manage your mailing lists with the LWS Panel?.
Each mailbox has storage space. When this space is fully used, the mailbox may no longer receive new messages.
Before increasing a mailbox quota, check whether large, old, or unnecessary messages can be deleted. Also remember to empty the trash from the webmail.
The following help articles let you control the available resources:
A strong, unique password is essential, but other protections can also be enabled from the LWS Panel or the webmail.
You can notably:
See the following help articles:
An email address can be suspended after a long period without logging in. Sending messages may also be blocked when abnormal activity or spam sending is detected.
Use the help corresponding to your situation:
If sending was suspended for spam, do not only request reactivation of the service. Change the password of the mailbox concerned and check the devices, websites, or scripts that use it in order to identify the source of the sending.
The LWS Panel lets you consult several logs useful for understanding a receiving problem, checking whether a message was sent, or detecting an unusual login.
This information can notably help you determine whether a message was accepted, refused, or delayed, and whether an address was used from an unknown device or IP address.
Roundcube is the webmail used to check messages from a browser. It also allows you to manage folders, signatures, filters, auto-replies, and contacts.
Mailbox creation, quota management, and security restrictions are still performed from the LWS Panel.

You can add your email address in Outlook, Thunderbird, Gmail, Apple Mail, or the mail app on your phone.
You will need your full email address, its password, and the mail service connection settings.

If your domain uses an external DNS zone, the records required for email operation must point to the LWS mail service.
